Some weddings feel like a full reflection of who the couple is at their core. Creative, soulful, and filled with love. That was the energy from the very beginning of Elizebeth and Brian’s wedding day at The Great Falls Center in Paterson, NJ. From the low-key getting ready moments to the handmade details, everything felt effortlessly them.
They started the day slow with no rush or chaos, just a quiet kind of excitement as they got dressed surrounded by family and friends. Their first look was calm and candid, the kind that feels less like a photo op and more like sneaking a moment together before the whirlwind begins. After that, we headed into downtown Paterson for portraits, weaving through the streets to find pockets of texture and story. Elizebeth and Brian had mentioned being inspired by old high-bar and low-bar photos from 1980s China, so naturally we made a quick stop in front of the local Burger King. Somehow, they made it look cool. And then came one of the best moments. We passed by the National Park Service tent at the falls and they stopped in to get their wedding badge. Unexpected, personal, and just so them.
They chose The Great Falls Center for their ceremony and the space was filled with light and warmth. Their welcome packet was one of my favorite details. Handmade and full of personality, complete with photos of their parents on their own wedding days. It felt like a nod to the past while fully embracing their present. The ceremony itself was intimate and emotional, with soft draping and a room full of people leaning in to witness something real.
Afterward, cocktail hour stayed casual and playful. Guests passed around drinks and took turns contributing to a paint-by-numbers canvas, which turned out to be such a fun and unexpected addition. Dinner followed with a long table full of candles, shared plates, and conversation. The reception had that kind of low-key energy that feels more like a dinner party than a big production, in the best way.
The most memorable part of the whole day was the way Elizebeth and Brian wove their creativity into every detail. They’re both artists and it showed. From the signage to the decor to the goodie bags, they made everything themselves. It didn’t feel overdone or styled. It just felt like them. Honest, intentional, full of love.
